U11 Div 1 V Knights

Post  Tim on Mon Apr 28, 2008 11:51 am

The boys were at home this week against Knight and in the end comfortably won 2-1. They started off in fine fashion moving the ball well and attacking goal. Towards the end of the half we sat back and let the knights get back into it. The knights were unlucky to get a goal from a cracking shot from outside of the box which hit the upright.

After a rowsing from Steve, Spirit came out after half time at constantly attacked with the first goal coming from a cut back from the backline by Jordan and a tap in from Lukas. The second goal however was the highlight with our sweeper Tremaine going up for a corner and scoring his first ever goal from an attempted clearing by the Knights. A late soft goal by the Knights kept Spirit on their toes but in the end we comfortably saw them off.

Our major problem at the moment is ensuring the boys play their own game and not be lowered to the opposition's level. Our danger zone has always been 2-0. They get to 2-0, then seem to sit back and try to defend it instead of pushing on. In the last two games, they have conceded soft goals at 2-0 that have "woken them up".

The final issue was that the Knights coach was sent from the technical area and is now facing a week's suspension for abusing the referee (Me!). It is important to remember, that even though there were no black and whites, anyone who refs deserves the respect that would be afforded a proper official and can send coaches from the technical area if needed.

No matter who is out there - The ref is always right, even when they're wrong!
