RD 11 v South Side Eagles
Hi all,
After last week beating the top side 3-0 we had to back up this week against a very solid South Side Eagles who had onle conceded 8 goals in their previos 10 matches. A late withdawl due to illness from left wing back Bernie Elmore allowed Luke Haydon who has just returned from 5 weeks overseas with the national indoor team to come straight into the first team.
A pumped up Spirit came out firing and were unlucky not to be up 1-0 in the first 5 mins from a great cut back which was pushed wide by striker Phil Randall. We gained reward on 20 mins when Luke Haydon beat 2 defenders and struck cleanly from just outside the 18 yrd box to give us the lead.
Nick Patterson finished a great move down the left hand side to put us up 2-0 soon after and in total control. With 8 mins to go before the break Eagles equalised against the run of play much to my disappointment as their only danger to us was from the long ball and a very speedy striker.
With a minute to go before the break Phil was finally rewarded for his hard work and we went to the break 3-1 up with the Eagles probably thanking their lucky stars they weren't down by more.
Football is a funny game and Eagles came out with all guns a blazing and threw everything bar the kitchen sink at us in the 2nd half. They received a dubious penalty from our favourite ref in mr bob eadie and it was now game on at 3-2.
Our guys battled hard for each other and held on for a great win. we would love to see everyone down there on saturday night when we play the 2nd placed Pine Hills.
May the Spirit be with you!!
regards Chris McCabe
